What is a cloud database?

By definition, a cloud database is a database created, deployed and accessed from a cloud environment (private, public or hybrid cloud).

There are two basic cloud database deployment models, which we will discuss below.

Traditional databases are very similar to databases- which are hosted locally and managed internally. The difference is in the way the infrastructure is provisioned. A company buys space on a virtual machine from a cloud provider and the database is deployed in the cloud. Corporate developers use the DevOps model or bring in IT staff to manage the database. The user is responsible for monitoring and managing the database.
